Baby Formulas Types

If your baby isn't thriving on breast milk, you should consider switching to formula. The main difference between baby formulas is the type of sugar and protein they contain. Most infants who are not exclusively breastfed should be given an iron-fortified formula made from cow's milk.

If you're a new mother, you're probably aware that breastfeeding is best for your child. However, not everyone is able to successfully breastfeed. What matters is that your baby receives the nutrition he requires to develop and thrive. If your baby isn't thriving on breast milk, you should consider switching to formula. 

There are numerous options to choose from. It makes no difference which brand you use. All formulas are prepared in accordance with FDA regulations, which specify minimum and, in some cases, maximum nutrient levels for infant formulas based on the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Nutrition recommendations. 

These regulations, as well as the Infant Formula Act, assist in ensuring that all infant formulas are nutritionally complete and safe for your baby. If you choose not to breastfeed, the American Academy of Pediatrics does not endorse or recommend any specific brand of formula, except that low iron formula should not be used.

Soy formulas are lactose-free and made with soy protein. They are suitable for children who are lactose or milk protein intolerant. Elemental formulas are also lactose-free and made with hydrolyzed proteins, which are easy for infants with protein allergies to digest. If you have a family history of food allergies or formula intolerances, you may want to start your baby on a soy or elemental formula instead of breastfeeding.
